fashionably fit - Blue Lotus
meets a need for yoga and fitness wear in downtown Franklin. Owner Laurie Brooks, shown here, showcases products from around the globe, such as California-based Blue Canoe organic clothing and Israel's Margarita apparel. Brooks, who grew up in West Bloomfield, attended Michigan State University and now lives in Bloomfield Hills, carries local artists' works, such as Jannell Eagan's jeweled fruits and vegetables pieces. Handmade jewelry, Echobana candles and yoga mat bags add to the store's selection. Some men's fitness wear and children's clothing available, too. The store is closed on Sundays and open by appointment only on Mondays. 32644 Franklin Road, Franklin, 248-747-7300. - Lauren Maiman

fancy feet - Shoetique
in downtown Rochester, offers more than just cute shoes. An array of handbags, funky belts, playful accessories and endless jewelry options keeps visitors shopping long after their feet are outfitted. "The people in Rochester are so loyal to the stores," says Hollis Griffin, who co-owns the store with her husband. 115 E. 3rd St., Rochester, 248-651-7463.

fresh face
Adding to 400 stores worldwide, LUSH, a British cosmetic company, opened its first retail space in Michigan at the Somerset Collection North. Dubbing themselves a "cosmetic grocer," the space - adorned with chalkboard-style signs, butcher-block tables and cheese wheel-shaped soaps - feels more market than cosmetic counter. Creativity does not stop at the display; names like Honey I Washed the Kids soap bars and Sex Bomb bath bubbles entertain shoppers. All products are handmade. Packages sport a sticker with the date of creation, so consumers are guaranteed the freshest products possible. LUSH, 2800 W. Big Beaver Road, Troy, 248-458-1690, www.lush.com.
